The Veils of Dawn
Format: Solo Exhibition & Residency Output | Venue: SAACA CATALYST / Eckstrom-Columbus, AZ (2024–2025)
The Veils of Dawn investigates what it feels like to belong somewhere you have not yet arrived. Working in mid-range stoneware, I pushed slabs to their material limits through bending the clay until it held the memory of that tension in its fired surface. The resulting forms echo the layered atmosphere of Tucson's desert dawns: thin, translucent, structurally improbable.
Installed alongside soft upholstered canvases, the ceramic veils function as a study in permanent against transient and hard against soft productive contradiction. The place you left against the place you are still becoming. Color and texture are records of how a body orients itself when the coordinates keep shifting.
