Abstract: Inspired by the Sufi-influenced cinema of Nacer Khemir, this project explores the concept of "departure without arrival", a fundamental condition of the transnational subject. In this body of work I am deconstructing Arabic letters, stripping them of their literal linguistic function to reveal their underlying paths and spiritual architecture. Each piece functions as a material investigation into the transitions between cultures, where identity is perpetually in flux.
By marrying fluid lines with specific colors, the work translates the "complexities of the path" into a tangible material dialogue. This research-as-practice aligns with decolonial methodologies by reclaiming the Arabic script as a generative mapping tool rather than a purely ornamental or traditional artifact. It challenges audiences to engage with the calligraphic form as a contemporary research site where the "geometry of the soul" meets the ethics of displacement.
