At the Gate of Dawn

In this project I explore fluid boundaries of identity, belonging, and cultural intersections based on my migration experiences and negotiating immersive installations. Central to this project is an narrative that draws upon Sufi philosophy, symbolic archetypes, and mathematical principles, each enriching stages of wandering and cultural negotiation. Figures such as the Wanderer, Intruder, Beggar, Guard, and Technician represent different roles in my own journey, with each positioned as a reflection on adaptation, cultural perspective, and identity.

My technique is meticulous, blending different ceramic traditions with design considerations. My work includes using vibrant glazes and structured forms, incorporating cultural symbolism. The technical setup of the installation considers viewer engagement and spatial dynamics based on my experience in the theme park industry, allowing each sculpture to embody, through its unique texture and color, a placeholder for the viewer to see themselves in. The compositions employ sedimentary stacking of elements, creating a layered “dialogue” between elements and cycles of mutual constitution and influence.

Through these philosophical and technical investigations, I offer a reimagined cultural landscape, rooted in tradition and reinterpretation. This project encourages viewers to embark on their own journey of self-reflection and cultural inquiry, enriching the dialogue around ways of being and belonging.
